Puntius titteya (Cherry barb)Denne artikel er også tilgængelig på dansk." I had never noticed the Cherry barb earlier.I bought 5 Cherry barbs in a shop called "Akvariehulen" in Frederikshavn. They had a "capture-the-fish-yourself" tank, where all fish costed 4 DKK a piece or 35 DKK for 10 fish, by the way an excellent idea, especially for the younger aquarists.I tried to breed them, but gave up because they spend all the time in opposite corners of the tank. Later I moved some Danio rerios to the tank and they spawned immidiatly, so I moved the parents away again and waited for the eggs to hatch. After a while I was much surprised as there was two young Cherry barbs among the Zebras. I can only guess that the eggs remained in the Java moss and miracously survived the grown zebras. I don't have the cherry barb anymore, but it is one of those fish that I want to try breeding again sometime in the future. Factsheet

The male titteya barb has a beautiful red color with a dark brown stripe along the body all th eway through the tail fin. The other titteya fry from my first breeding attempts, which was rather feeble as I didn't even know the parents had spawned until I saw the fry. Comment:Chris: Cherry BArbs are not fin nippers Reply from webmaster: No, I agree - who said they were? | |
