A Personal Milestone
I received this aquarium as a birthday gift around 1977. Although it was pre-owned, it was in excellent condition and came complete with a fluorescent tube fixture. The tank featured a classic aluminum frame, giving it a very handsome and timeless look. My only minor complaint at the time was the narrow width of just 25 cm, but as a young boy, the pure joy of owning my first aquarium outweighed everything else. It proved to be an incredibly durable build, staying with me for decades—it was the only one of my original tanks I still possessed when I returned to the hobby after a long hiatus.
Versatile Use Over the Years
Over time, this aquarium has served virtually every imaginable purpose. It began as a traditional community tank but later functioned as both a grow-out tank and a temporary home for goldfish fry when I closed my garden pond. After a 15-year break from the hobby, this 53-liter tank was the very first one I dusted off and put back into use. For a period, it was also part of my shelving unit alongside my smaller 20-liter and 64-liter tanks.
The End of an Era
Ultimately, I chose to sell the aquarium. Following a renovation of my aquarium rack, its dimensions no longer fit the system, and with limited space elsewhere in the home, it was time to let a new aquarist enjoy this robust classic.
